Rich Warlock
Recently I came across a very special USA Warlock. I
didn't have much information on the guitar or the seller, but
it looked interesting so I went for it. I had a suspicion it was
going to be similar to a Mockingbird that some friends, Greg &
Alan Archer, have. When I got the Warlock, I quickly realized
just how similar it was. I got in touch with Greg asap, and discovered
that the Warlock and the Mockingbird were more than just similar.
They were virtual twins, having exact consecutive serial numbers.
Both have solid purpleheart necks, quilt maple rails, padouk wings,
brazilian rosewood fretboards, diamond inlays, active electronics,
and Kahler Pro tremolos. The woods used are a highly rare combination
with a beautiful result. Pictures do not do these guitars justice.
We determined that both guitars were worked on by Neal Moser,
and shipped from the original USA custom shop in November of 1983.
Now, the freakish part of it is that Greg & Alan happen to
live several hundred miles away from me. The odds of finding two
consecutive numbered early Rich's this rare (or even not as rare)
is almost unheard of, let alone by guys who know each other from
hundreds of miles apart. Having these guitars is cool enough as
it is to us, but that part of their story makes it especially
awesome and something I wanted to share with people. -Scott
